Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 to Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is part of the Robertses' fourth generation who reside in the Atlanta area, starting in the family of her grand-father John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Her father took keen interest from a young age in stage. When he was a student at Emory University he appeared in diverse productions, both at and off the campus. In 1953, when he joined the Air Force and was spotted together with Betty Lou Bredemus in Biloxi. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their first child, Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. In 1957, the couple quit the military and Walter enrolled in Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter started working at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter and Betty Lou started production in 1964 on the local children's Saturday morning TV show Bum Bum and His Buddies and their Buddies, which they both funded. They established an Actors and Writers Workshop in the same year, which ran for six years. They also had two children Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in the year 1965 in 1965 and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
